Northern Portugal is where the nation was born—rich in history, spirituality and breathtaking landscapes. Its cities combine medieval charm with vibrant local culture and the deep tradition of the Atlantic coast.
Our journey begins in Porto, a UNESCO World Heritage city known for the Douro River, iconic bridges and world-famous port wine. Strolling through its historic center is like stepping back in time while enjoying the lively Portuguese atmosphere.
We will visit Braga, often called the “Portuguese Rome” due to its religious heritage and sacred sites, and Guimarães, the birthplace of the nation, where medieval architecture tells the story of Portugal’s origins.
An unforgettable trip filled with culture, spirituality, history and authentic Portuguese charm—perfect for those who want to discover the true heart of Portugal.
Flight departure to Santiago de Compostela. From there, we will travel to Valença do Minho, where you will have free time to stroll through its historic center and enjoy lunch. Afterwards, we will continue to Braga, where we will check into our accommodation. Depending on our arrival time, we will enjoy an introductory visit to the city before having the evening and dinner at leisure.
A possible day devoted to nature, following the spectacular PR9 Trilho da Geira-Gerês trail in the heart of Peneda-Gerês National Park. After lunch, we will visit Guimarães, regarded as the birthplace of Portugal, where we will explore its historic center and discover landmarks such as the medieval castle and the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza.
The schedule for this day may vary depending on the final organization of the trip. One option is to spend the entire day discovering Porto with a guided tour and free time. Alternatively, we may combine the spectacular Passadiços do Paiva walkway and the impressive 516 Arouca suspension bridge with a guided tour of Porto in the afternoon.
We will continue enjoying Portugal's natural landscapes with a possible hike along the Passadiços do Vez, in the Sistelo area, renowned for its breathtaking scenery and agricultural terraces. Afterwards, we will travel to Vigo, where you will have free time to explore the city, stroll through its streets, and enjoy Galician cuisine.
As a possible grand finale to the trip, we will sail to the Maritime-Terrestrial National Park of the Cíes Islands, considered one of the most beautiful natural areas on the Atlantic coast. We will have the opportunity to walk its scenic trails, admire its white-sand beaches, and experience its unique protected environment.
At the scheduled time, we will transfer to the airport to board our return flight, bringing this wonderful journey through northern Portugal to an end.
