The Northern Way is undoubtedly one of the oldest and most beautiful routes to Santiago. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this path follows the Cantabrian coast and enters Galicia through landscapes of great natural beauty, traditional rural villages, ancient monasteries, and forests that seem frozen in time.
In this itinerary, we will walk the final section of the Northern Way, starting in Ribadeo, the gateway to Galicia and famous for its proximity to the Beach of the Cathedrals, and ending in Arzúa, where it joins the French Way for the last kilometers towards Santiago (optional).
This is a deep, peaceful, and authentic journey, ideal for those who wish to live the true spirit of pilgrimage: nature, history, inner reflection, and companionship. We will cross rural regions, active monasteries such as Sobrado dos Monxes, and enjoy Galician hospitality every step of the way.
The journey begins in Galician lands. Green landscapes, traditional villages, and a welcoming pilgrim atmosphere. A gentle stage that introduces us to the rural essence of Galicia.
Arrival in Mondoñedo, one of Galicia’s most historic cities, home to an impressive cathedral and medieval old town. A perfect stage to connect with the heritage of the Camino.
We ascend towards the Lucense plateau, enjoying panoramic views and ancient pilgrim paths. A stage of forests and silence.
We enter the region of Terra Chá, renowned for its meadows, livestock farms, and cheese-making tradition. Vilalba welcomes us with its medieval tower and charming atmosphere.
A gentle route through rural landscapes and small villages where time seems to stand still. Baamonde is a classic stopping point for pilgrims on the Northern Way.
The queen stage of the journey. We walk through ancient forests until reaching the impressive Monastery of Sobrado, one of the most important spiritual centers of the Camino. Sleeping or visiting this monastery is an unforgettable experience.
The final stage of the Northern Way, where we merge with the French Way. Arzúa, land of cheese and pilgrim tradition, marks the end of our official route… or the beginning of the last kilometers to Santiago for those who wish to complete the pilgrimage.
